Our team specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system and the diagnosis and treatment of all neurological disorders. In practice for nearly two decades, the medical team at Comprehensive Neurology and Sleep Medicine are widely respected within the referring physician and patient communities. Our skilled providers treat a vast range of neurological disorders and sleep problems, from common to complex, with compassion and the most advanced, state of the art technology. Konrad W. Bakker, M.D.

Board Certified Neurologist

Konrad W. Bakker, M.D.Konrad W. Bakker, M.D., is a graduate of the University of Amsterdam School of Medicine, The Netherlands (M.D., 1981). He performed rotating internships at the University of Leiden Medical Center, The Netherlands, during 1981 to 1982, and was a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, during 1983 to 1984. His neurology residency was at the Georgetown University Medical Center during 1984 to 1987.

He is board certified in neurology with added qualifications in neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in electromyography by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, in sleep disorders medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and in electroencephalography (EEG) by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Dr. Bakker is the director of the Greater Washington Sleep Disorders Centers. He is a staff member of Frederick Memorial Hospital and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He is a clinical instructor at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Bakker is an active member of the American Sleep Disorders Association, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Society of Neuroimaging.

Navid Mostofi, M.D.

Navid Mostofi, M.D.Navid Mostofi, M.D., is a 1996 graduate of the Beheshti University Medical School in Tehran, Iran. Dr. Mostofi worked as a general practitioner in Iran for five years, and then joined Temple University in Philadelphia for his internship and neurology specialty training. He furthered his training at Georgetown University by completing fellowships in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology.

Dr. Mostofi was selected as Best Teaching Resident during his training, and has received two awards, Best Resident Teacher (2005) and Best Research Presentation of the Year (2006). He also conducted and published several research projects regarding the treatment of epilepsy during his residency and fellowship.

Dr. Mostofi is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a staff member in Frederick Memorial Hospital and an active member of the American Academy of Neurology. He is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Georgetown University Hospital, where he lectures neurology residents and fellows concerning new developments in the treatment of epilepsy.

His areas of special interest include epilepsy management, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and neuro-diagnostic medicine, including sleep studies, EMG/NCV, EEG, and evoked potentials.

Sarah Jamieson, PA-C

Physician Assistant - Certified   What is a PA?

Sarah Layman, PA-C Sarah obtained her B.A. in Bio-Chemistry from McDaniel College. She is a 2003 graduate of the Physician Assistant Program at the Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, VA. She first practiced neurology in western Maryland prior to making Frederick her home.

Sarah is licensed through the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants and the Maryland Board of Physicians. She is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the Maryland Academy of Physician Assistants. She attended the 2008 American Academy of Sleep Medicine national conference as a member of the AASM and continues to further her education through courses supported by the American Academy of Neurology.

She has developed a special interest in headache treatment, multiple sclerosis, and support for caregivers of patients with illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease. Sarah is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, a non-medication approach to insomnia and sleep disorders. She has performed lectures for fellow mid-level practitioners on hot topics in sleep and neurology including new treatment options. She also strives to be active educating the community through support group lectures.
